Certificate III in Disability Work

This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to carry out activities related to the maintenance of an individual's personal care and/or other activities of living.

A Care worker provides services to aged people in order to maintain a state of health, well-being and independence appropriate to the aged person’s needs and desires.

The units you will be undertaking will enable you to respond appropriately to the needs of people who are older or have disabilities.

Upon completion of this course you will be qualified to find employment within the following areas;

Total of 8 weeks to 28 weeks –mix of full time and part time

Essential

Applicants should have an interest in supporting/caring for older people and by physically fit to manage the requirements of a career in aged care work.  Applicants should have sufficient English skills and be able to communicate accurately in writing (to Certificate 3 level). Applicants need to be committed to the training and study program.

Desirable & Important

Police clearance before attended work placement, and medical health clearance, demonstrating capacity to;

  • perform manual handling tasks

  • bend from the knees

  • bend at the waist

  • assist/support a client with their physical and psychological care duties
  • industry dress standard
  • work a 7 day 24 hour shift roster

This course is a combination of training room, skills lab based training and work placement required. We also have a flexible learning option enabling participants to study at home with tutor support.

Students need to obtain a Police Check prior to commencing work-placement, and submit a resume. Assessments will be conducted throughout the course, with some occurring in the workplace.

All training is aligned to current practice using principles of adult learning, and incorporates Recognition of Prior Learning / Current Competencies

This program has become the standard entry qualification for care workers with students obtaining a 95% employment outcome rate.

All potential students will be interviewed in order to gauge their suitability for the role. A deposit is required from self-funding students; a purchase order is required from organisations who will be responsible for payment of fees

All applicants will attend an induction/enrolment session and will receive an induction, handbook and site orientation.

CHC40308      Certificate 4 in Disability Work

This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to carry out activities related to the supervision of and maintenance of an individual's personal care and/or other activities of living. It is also supportive of workers wanting to work towards becoming shift supervisors and progressing to higher awards such as a pathway to Diploma or Bachelor Studies
